Somebody out there, some very bored person, wants to know how the Cypher got started. From the beginning to now. So for those of you who would also like to know, place your index fingers on the scroll button.....place your eyes on the screen......play the "Same Life" track......and take a ride on the time machine.
I would have to say it was around September 2007. Maury High School. Norfolk, VA.
I had already been in band for my first two years of high school, and to my advantage, many of the instrumentalists were also on there "Fruity Loops" grind lol. I knew these two dudes named B-Dub and B!szurk (Brandon and Bryan -Govt lol). They got me into producing [back then it was just making beats]. I had a math class with Jermaine (Tommy Gunn), but I didn't know he rapped, and he didn't know I made beats for almost half of the year. We got cool simply because the math class was so slow and boring and we were probably the only cool kids in the classroom.
We were both always making the class laugh and whatnot, so we started hanging out outside of Maury.
The first time Jermaine heard one of my beats, we were sitting in class with a substitute (the best days lol). I got on the computer and listened to a cd that I had made. He saw me nodding and asked to hear it. That's when I found out he could rap. After class he spit a verse for me in the hallway and it was nothing like I had ever heard before. I just knew he was going to be big one day, so I figured I would let him bless a few of my best beats. I made a cd for him with some of my best beats that I ever made, hoping that he would at least give them a chance.
Keep in mind, I have this broken down, white, computer mic at my house that I keep testing out to see how good I can get at recording. I started writing little short verses for some of my beats and recording them and then adding effects and the whole works. I started getting pretty good.
Well anyway, one of those "trials" ended up on the cd of beats I gave Jermaine. So the next day at school, when we come to the math class, he sees me and laughs. I asked him why he was laughing and he quotes the song, "flow like water on a smooth chest" lol. He can't stop laughing. I told him 100 times that I was just testing the mic, but he keeps telling me to pursue rhyming, because I had potential.
I took his word for it and kept writing. He said that the quality of the recording was good to, and that he wanted to come record at my "studio." After I explained to him the ugly white mic that he produced such FIRE, he told me that it didn't matter as long as it sounded good. That's when I knew that he might be one of the pieces to the puzzle of my "purpose" on music and life. I knew that I was given this ability, this talent, this gift, for a reason. A reason that wouldn't reach its potential if it was just me on my own. We began recording songs and started creating a sound for Tommy Gunn and A-Sharp.
Then Jason "J-Kid" came into the picture. When he let the "Eagle Fly" higher than a nerf lol. He introduced me to ADLIBS. I mean if you heard this cat for the first time you would say, he was made for this. Every time he finished his verse on a song, I would began anticipating how he would go about attacking his doubles. Whether it was the infamous 'burp' that followed a punchline one "Money", or the roar on "Reasons," J-Kid did what he wanted, and it always sounded like Jason. He had his own style and I dug it [excuse my use of 1970s phrases].
So after Jermaine found out about a studio that would only charge $15 an hour to record with good quality, we all jumped at the oppurtunity. The two brothers, and their producer A-Sharp. That was until TG told me to write a verse to a song that I had given them. I told him no on plenty occasions, but that was just not an option. "C'mon and kill this track dog."
I wrote my couple bars and waited until the day when we could record it. "Like What" was officially my first song recorded with Jay and Maine. I was nervous during the ride to the studio, while Jay and TG recorded, while I recorded, while Dre chopped it up and mastered it, when he put it on a cd for us, when we listened to it in the car, and when I got home. lol
After I survived the afterschock of "Like What", we went on to record many more songs. Jermaine came up with the name for the group after we sat in the car a few times and freestyle for hours and realized how much fun a cypher can be, and how good we all were at rhyming off the top of the head and making sense, and sounding good.
The name for the album "Beats. Pens.Pads.&Mics" was Jason's idea. It made so much sense that we had to stick with it.
......and that brings us to now. A year and a half after meeting Jermaine in the hallways of Maury High School, and being introduced to Jason when he recorded a song in my kitchen, we have one foot in the door, and the other foot is in the air. We're flying right into our spots in history and in the music industry. "THE CYPHER" is finally reaching it's potential with the help of too many people to name. I can name a few though. Special thanks goes out to every family member in all of our families that supported us and raised us in the men you see today, to B-Dub and B!szurk for getting me started in this business, to Show and Dre for treating us like family every time we came to the studio and putting us on as artist [respect], to those of you who support us by listening to our music or reading my blog while we are not yet as big as we will be [you can say you were here from day one], and to God for giving us the ability to be so nasty lol.
Now from me.
I would like to say Thank you to Jermaine and Jason and my boy Anthony (the fourth member lol). I love y'all like brothers real talk. Sometimes I sit and think about where I would be if I hadn't met any of you. How boring it would be on the weekends. How garbage I would be in Tekken, Mortal Kombat, and Super Smash Bros. lol. I'm glad God put y'all in my life, and I hope nothin mess up our friendships.....nah forget that. We're brothers....i won't let noone come in between our family.
Til' next time.

So Anxious....
......workin another 3 to 11 shift at the Tree. Supposed to be in a meeting with the team and the engineers at the studio. ......yes, I'm missing a business meeting to check-in snobby old guys that are staying at the hotel for.......yea you guessed it........business meetings. Ironic? No.
So whats next on the agenda? ---1. finishing the album;
Still number one lol. So far the track list is looking pretty good, and the best part about it is we only had ONE guest appearance. So this album is gonna be 99% The Cypher, 1% Friends. Which would be Ron Lew of C4, who went in on "My Friend." So far we have reached every demographic with the songs that we recorded.
My Favorites?
1.) Open Up* >> sometimes you just want to tell her to Open Up. [Enough is Enough]
2.) Ride With Me + IT'S WHAT every Guy wants to say to a bomb girl with a wack boyfriend. lol
3.) The INTRO [it's crazy, shoutout to Supa]
4.) Sit Back; which happens to be the Anthem for my life. Sit Back or Get Back, either get with us or get away from us lol.
5.) Same Life = "Haters Think Twice, They Wish They Could Write" TG was feelin it when he wrote that chorus. I got nothin but love for these guys.

Tied up on a Rail Road....
.....that means I'm Back on Track. :) you'll catch it when you get home.
HELLO WORLD.
It's been a while since i got my QWERTY on. But I'm officially back. Got a lttle hectic for a second.
Good News or Bad News? ummm....Bad News.
I think I officially have gotten 8 hours of sleep this whole weekend. I know tht's good compared to most party people, only problem is....I didn't go to a single party! -Work, School, Work, School, Work, School, School Work lol
So if you see me and my eyes are low and red, before you even ask, NO i am not high. I'm tired. But It will pay off because of the Good News.
Talked to the studio engineer and I take back everything bad I ever said. My mans was just gettin his grown man on, taking care of his kids, and still trying to get us on at the same time. We talked for maybe 30 minutes because I was "at work", but It was a very insightful half hour. He told me about the feedback he got when he let a few radio dj's here our music. The best one so far....."Why haven't y'all brought this for us to play man?"
Man that felt good to hear. AND then when he told me, "'Ride With Me' is my favorite track y'all did so far man. I love that song. You Killed it." I once again tasted the fruits of my labor and this time the sour after-taste was virtually inexistent.
I read a few of Charles Hamilton's blogs and felt like he's doin exactly what I want to be....I will be doing. I respect that dude, real talk.
He's got this thing for Rhianna that's 'high-school puppy lov-ish'. So when I saw Chris Brown at the mall I work at yesterday, I couldn't help but think about CH. ...OK, I'm pulling up to the parking lot to go to work, after already recieving a call about Chris Brown being at the mall, as I'm trying to find a spot, I see a crowd of about 30, 40 grown men and women [not his typical fan-base lol] crowded around this blue lambhorgini.....given that this is an extremeley sexy and expensive car, I turned my hate meter on. As i'm pulling around this crowd, a few of his security guards are waving me down, telling me to stop so he can pull out. I "kindly" declined and continued down my path. He did the same. After barely avoiding a fender-bender with the kid, I pulled in two spots away from the mob and got out feeling validated. Breathed in the afternoon air and headed into the hotel. Green eyes and all......not.
Well anyway....sorry for the long period of no communication. I had to come back with Good News lol. Those other ones were getting depressing.
and O YEa, Phone fixed. But I'm still getting the Palm Pre soon as it comes out. Tommy Gunn Holla At ME with yo G1. Played OUT lol. Deucez

Wonder-fool's World
Statistically...my status now?
Stretch higher than stratus clouds,
My cyphers get you higher than cyphers.....puffing and passing out,
like SEGA...I was done with the Dream, over Cast,
like the days when I made it rain, sleet, snow with cash,
no cell....like I broke out of jail. Phony "stache",
disguised behind my head phones, owned by sony's hand,
I had to walkman, and not look back at it like Trina's CD,
I stayed true...non-commercial, I'm still "as seen on T.V."
the flashing lights can change you, that's why I wear sunshades,
I know i'm on the right roadm cause it's a one-way,
or better yet a runway, I'm flying out one day,
the only thing i'm leaving behind, is my evening disguise,
hop in this booth and and superman couldn't even defy,
i transform, past norm, and like a thief in the night,
I slip into your peripherals, and sneak up beside,
the weakest alive, these song-makers want a piece of this pie,
well these dances....won't cut it, like a geek in the line,
it's lunchtime......or better yet crunchtime, billy blanks,
i'm sicker than a ___ with ___.....fill-in blanks,
but I'll never forget where I came from, like my I.D.
even If I gotta leave bread crumbs, to remind me.

White Christmas??
It snowed. It sticked. I slept.
[sticked is not a word in case you sounded out a few times in your head] :)
TODAY.....i was ridiculously on my grind with the music. I forced out 8 beats in the few hours that I was home. I was so much in the zone that I did not eat until I clocked in at work and grabbed a mint from the counter. (stomach on EEeee)
..........
ok now i just went to the convenient store and bought a soda and a nutty bar. ----satisfied
I know April....this is my last soda for 2009 tho. Going out with a bang...straight 'Crush Grape' style lol.
....and mister "Daily Damage".
I would like to be the first to thank you, on behalf of all Virginians', on jinxing us into a SNOW DAY!! lol without your exciting tails of Snowmageddon and the "host chick from Top Chef."
We experienced what my father called a "light glaze" of snow....[hungry again hold on]
.........
ok back. lol. but yea thanks for the snow Deft Digits
........
I really need to post these beats up here and let you hear my how my mind works sometimes. My boy Actober Reid got me sampling again after a little hiatus. I'm very pleased with the outcome, so be lookin out for that collab pretty soon. The Sharp-Actober project is gonna happen soon. "Rapper Turned Astronaut" is gonna turn stomachs.....it's that sick. so SHOUTout to him.
Big Things....Big Things....
...........
speaking of stomachs turning. Nutty Bar + Crush Grape Soda = Nutty Bar [it's disgusting, i know lol sorry]
